About Us

Hancocks Solicitors

Hancocks Solicitors (until 1985, the Banbury office of Shipston-on-Stour firm, F B Hancock & Co, which was founded in the 19th Century) is a three partner/nine fee earner private client and commercial practice based in Banbury, Oxfordshire and Brailes, near Shipston specialising in Wills and Probate, Conveyancing, Family Law, Commercial Property, and Civil Litigation for individuals and SMEs in North Oxfordshire and beyond, including London and overseas.

On 1 May 2015, Hancocks acquired Cotswold Family Law, a rural practice in Brailes providing Family Law, and Wills and Probate services, expanding the range of services offered to Cotswold Family Law clients. And, on 1 June 2017, we acquired Brooks Law, a Conveyancing, Wills and Probate, Family Law, and Civil Litigation practice, in Shipston.

Hancocks has considerable residential and commercial property expertise; collectively, Michael Barlow, Toni Peppard, Siobhan Sibley, Eddie Reeves and Andrew Hardcastle have about 90 years’ experience. Michael, Toni and Eddie also do Wills and Probate (Toni does elderly client and mental capacity work too), and Ian Davies and Laura Parker do Family Law and comprise the “Family” practice at Cotswold Family Law (a trading name of Hancocks Solicitors).

We are a member of the Law Society Conveyancing Quality Scheme, while Toni is a member of both Solicitors for the Elderly and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, and Ian and Laura are members of Resolution (formerly the Solicitors Family Law Association), and Ian is also a member of the Law Society Family Law Scheme.

Ian and Laura’s “matrimonial” practice includes divorce and financial settlements, children issues, pre-nuptial agreements, and civil partnerships.

Wills and Probate includes trusts and Inheritance Tax planning, and Toni’s elderly client practice includes Lasting Powers of Attorney and “Living Wills” (Advance Decisions and Statements), Deputyships and Court of Protection/Office of the Public Guardian work.

Conveyancing includes, not only residential sales and purchases, but also re-mortgages, equity release schemes, lease extensions and declarations of trust.

Andrew and Siobhan’s commercial property work also includes agricultural, licensed premises, banking and non-contentious insolvency, and Siobhan does conveyancing and civil litigation too.

The foundation of our business being repeat instructions and client referrals, we are proud of our client retention rates; indeed, we are not in the business of putting our clients anywhere but first.
